Fire and Ice Stitchery

We have such talent in Idaho!  One of our newest members is Tesja of Fire and Ice Stitchery.  She has incorporated wonderfully intricate cross stitched items into wearable accessories!

Cream Lace Sampler Pendant
The inspiration behind my work is my ancestory. I am a direct decendent of "Eric the Red", a famous and viscious viking from Iceland; the land of fire and ice. My Icelandic heritage is from my father's side, and my name, Tesja, comes from a beautiful mountian in Iceland called "Esja". My mother taught me to cross stitch when I was eleven, and I haven't stopped since. I just love creating with my hands! While researching authentic Icelandic embroidery patterns, I started to needlecraft some of my own samples by matching the thread to the original colors in the pictures, and stitching without formal patterns. What I developed turned out so beautiful, I just had to incorporate it into my wardrobe through accessories! It was my sister who suggested I open an etsy shop to share my passion.

Vintage Lace Remnant Pendant
Creating for me, is the key to happiness. I believe in surrounding yourself with dreams, and my cross stitch creations are my dreams realized. I find great joy in making something exquisite, and sharing that joy with others!

I love to cross stitch! I have been a stitcher since I was eleven, when my mother taught me. Her mother, my grandma loved cross stitching as well. It's like a family tradition.

My Fire and Ice Stitchery on Etsy is my only shop because I believe in the artists and creativity that Etsy represents.

I will be at the "For Your Basket" market in Idaho Falls, Idaho August 27. This is my second market, and I am extreamly excited to meet some fellow Idaho crafters!

I love all things stitched, and vintage. Taking old to make new is one of my passions. Please, enjoy my creations!

for your basket : a handmade market in idaho falls

Hi everyone! We are really excited for our upcoming market at the end of this month. We thought we'd take a minute to introduce our event and invite you to join us. We are accepting applications on our website through the 5th (that's tomorrow!) There is more information on that site or you can email us at team@foryourbasketmarket.com

5 common questions we receive (answered!):

Why did you decide to do this market?
Our love for all things handmade is matched only by our love for the gem state. We wanted to give other handmaidens such as ourselves a place to come and share their talents with the Idaho Falls community. We'll be selling our goods right along with our vendors.

Why is the market juried?
We really wanted this market to include unique, quality items that are on trend. In handpicking our vendors, he hope to preserve a hip, but well-made market. Jury-ing the market also helps us eliminate competition between vendors of similar items!

How are you promoting the event?
We currently have ads running on IdahoFallsMagazine.com, The Daybook Blog, A Vision To Remember, The Toasted Coconut, Love, Shellsea, I Believe In Unicorns and Kelsie Rae. Most of these sponsorships will include giveaways throughout August. This week we have a giveaway running on Busy Bee Lauren--most of our giveaways will run in the style shown on that post.

For August, our banner ad will also appear in Idaho Falls Magazine's newsletter The Weekender, which is sent out via email to 6,000 subscribers weekly.

Our first 100 customers will receive a free cupcake from The Cocoa Bean Cupcake Cafe in Idaho Falls. This, along with the rest of the market information, will be advertised throughout Idaho Falls on leaflets, flyers, banners and pickets. Taylor's Crossing will also be advertising our event on their digital marquee.

What are you doing to prevent theft at the market?
A very common question, and understandably. We take safety at our market very seriously. We will encourage our patrons to put items in a provided basket and not in their bags or pockets--vendors may offer the same encouragement. Talking to customers and acknowledging their interest in your inventory lets them know you are keeping an eye out for your items. We intend to section off the market with signs that ask customers to only exit the market at the designated checkout area. With one exit, customers are not able to walk off without being seen. Suspicious behavior should be reported immediately to For Your Basket staff.

I live in Location X. Do you know someone I could carpool with?
Yes! Right now we have vendors from Boise, Pocatello, Rexburg, Blackfoot, Rockland, Jackson, WY, and Logan/Kaysville/Salt Lake, UT. We'd be happy to put you in contact with them about sharing a car or a canopy.

Our applications close TOMORROW! So send us an application--we would LOVE to have you!

Love,

The For Your Basket Team
